Pelvic Health
Our pelvis is home to the muscles, tissues, nerves, organs, and blood vessels that are responsible for many of our most basic & important functions of life — peeing, pooping, sex, childbirth — and it’s pretty much the center of our body — yet this area often doesn’t get the attention & care it deserves.
Maybe your concerns have been disregarded by other providers in the past, or you’re not comfortable talking about anything going on “down there”, or you had no idea there was anything you could do to help (let alone PT), so why mention it?
But pelvic health physical therapists are a great resource to help address the range of problems that can occur with pelvic floor dysfunction - it could be pain in your low back or groin, inability to use a tampon, poor control of gas, a sense of heaviness in your vagina, or leaking every time you sneeze.
The pelvic floor is often overlooked as a piece of the puzzle, but it is still just one piece…
It needs to function well with our diaphragm & abdominals to manage internal pressures. Our thoracic spine & ribcage can impact how our pelvic floor is working. And often, when we hold tension in our pelvic floor muscles, we’re also holding it elsewhere.
By approaching the whole body as a system that needs to work together, we can be more effective at addressing your concerns & making lasting change.
